Convergence of Technology with time

There was a time when the devices themselves were inventions!
For example a tape-recorder, which itself was a device to listen to music.
But as technology evolved, the devices like Fax Machine, Phones, Tape-recorders, Cameras are integrated into smaller device!
Even Computers which once had so many components now are integrated into Laptops & tablets!
Same is the case with Television. If you go back in time when there were CRT TVs without remote. You had to literally goto the TV to change channel & some times there used to be only one channel!
But later, TV remotes were available & now-a-days you can control the TV with your gestures.

If you look at overall development, major thought went into converging different technologies into one single device which is user friendly & easy to carry.

There was elimination of the redundant stuff which was earlier thought to be necessary!

For example who would have thought that the there would be phones without buttons?
Even the telephone keypad went through so much evolution & debate to see which was most efficient layout.Believe it or not there were many papers published on this too.You can see the video "Phone Buttons - Numberphile" which explains the actual research & thought process behind it.

So you see that once upon a time, the things, components that were felt necessary are eliminated to make the device more elegant to use. Now even screens will disappear & will go into virtual screens where you can just project it on wall (or) it can be projected into your eye (or) you brain itself!

So it all boils down to basics, first -- you need a way to give the input to the device. Secondly the device by itself should have the capacity to process it(no matter offline or cloud based) and third & final -- a way to communicate that to you.
And all these should be easily carry-able & should be more integrated.

Can wearable computers and smart phones result in a new type of device?
Can TVs and Smartphones be clubbed?

Below is an image to show the evolution, So where are we headed?
